Dropped Wood

Ryland Russell from Central Baptist Church Owasso in Oklahoma brings us this design for their youth camp.

This design was for their cabin worship times at Falls Creek Youth Camp. At Falls Creek the main tabernacle holds around 7,000 people, so for their in-cabin worship they wanted to create a more intimate atmosphere.

He was inspired by Tied and decided to use burlap, wood, and the antique light bulbs that have been used many times on this site for the set.

He bought a large roll of burlap off Amazon. They used large binder clips to attach the burlap to a 3/4 inch conduit pipe to create the back curtain. (the roll was actually 15 ft shorter than advertised) He bought a couple different style antique bulbs from 60 watt Marconi and 30 watt Radio style bulbs. He bought 35 different bulbs and light strands but ended up using fewer due to time.

The lamp chords he bought from They were all run to dimmers.

The wood was thin luan plywood that were ripped into 1 ft strips. He then stained them two different colors with spray-on stain.

The “Thirst” sign went with the camp theme and was cutout of the plywood using a rotozip.

The lighting was 4 Chauvet COLORpalette’s on the floor of the backdrop and a few small par cans and led’s hanging above the audience.

The total cost of the stage design was around $500.
