Mark Edmondson and Amaris Montiel from Capo Beach Church in Dana Point, CA brings us this mixed-medium design. (originally posted October 2016)
They recently discovered flagging tape and have decided to do several designs using it. The price point is great and looks amazing under lights. Their service production producer, Amaris, designed this look utilizing another cheap material, window screening. They crumpled it up and hung it behind the main stage to give some extra texture and break up the flagging tape look.
They up-lit the screen to catch the shadows and front-lit the flagging tape to really make it pop.
The overall cost was $150 and took about 3 full days to set up and focus lighting.
How Did you create the designs in between the screen mesh material? The ones with the narrow middle spread out to wide lines on top and the bottom?
They explained in the description. The is what it says: designed this look utilizing another cheap material, window screening. They crumpled it up and hung it behind the main stage to give some extra texture and break up the flagging tape look.
Hi,
Please see my response bellow.
How did you create the designs in between the screen material? The ones with the narrow middle and all the lines.
That’s the flagging tape. I’d like to know they lit it.
That is made with white flagging tape. We connected the top and bottom too some wood. then tied a small piece of flagging tape around the middle to give it an hour glass look.
Hope that helps!
What color flagging tape is the best to use?
White worked best for us. It reflects light the best in our situation since we have black curtains behind it.
Is this just regular window screen? Black? Or is there a specific color of screen you used?
It is aluminum window screen, has a silver color to it. We crumple it up in a trash back then stretch it out and hang out. You can find it at your local hardware store!
Hi Mark, how did you attach the tape to the wood?
Hi Debbie.
We just folded it on top of itself a few times and stapled it with a staple gun.
