H2O You Can See

Bob Brock from Russellville Christian Center in Russellville, AR brings us this really cool American flag made from water bottles.

They created a three-panel American Flag for the 4th of July. Each panel was made from plywood, 2×4’s, and water bottles. Each panel held almost 10 cases of water and there were 2 LED lights behind each one. They put red food coloring and blue food coloring in the bottles to give it the color needed. They actually used water bottles that they kept from a youth event they had just a few weeks prior.

Then they used some black paint that was left over from other projects. They used a 2 1/4 inch hole saw to drill the holes in the plywood. Total cost for this project for them was just the cost of lumber.

Love the look! Great work. What kept the bottles from falling through the hole and out the back?
Just the angle that they were mounted into the frames?

Please share more about the lighting. How did you accomplish this. I would like
to re create your beautiful project.

  5. Bob says:

we just had 2 lights behind each panel. one pointed at the bottom and one at the top. we also did another version of it for our youth camp where we use different colored LED’s. I will see if I have a picture of it also.

Are the water bottles full with water? If not how did the bottles get dyed evenly?

    • Bob says:

they are pretty much full…we had to take a lil out to make the bottles fit. And we just counted the drops of food coloring we put in each one, let the lights do the rest.

Thanks for sharing this. It’s so inspiring to see people use their creativity and ingenuity. I especially love the fact that this project is affordable for everyone and uses trash as materials. So simple, but so effective. I’d like to try it to create a paisley-style design. Keep up the great work!

Do you have the exact dimensions of each wall?
