Line ‘Em Up

Justin Spina from New Beginnings Family Church in Monrovia, CA brings us this linear design.

To create this set they used primed 8ft MDF. They cut the MDF in half. The MDF they bought was 3 different shades of grey and 2 accent colors. Then they attached the MDF to 8ft and 7ft metal frames.

The center projection was a short throw projector that they got from Camron Ware‘s design: Texturesized.

looks realy really great…. great look for a church with a pretty low ceiling.

What did you use to light up the slats?

If those are LED’s, do you try different colors hitting the white and grey slats?

    once again… great job.

  2. Justin Spina says:

Hey James. Thanks for the comment. The slats are lit with american dj leds. They light up really good with different colors. That is why we did three different greys to reflect different color shades.

Looks great. I will be using your idea this summer at camp.

I was wondering if you cut the wood lengthwise and turned them vertically would it make the room look bigger?

  4. Tim Winkler says:

Do you know the names of the colors that you used?

  5. Where did you get the MDF?

  6. What type of paint was used? I’ve heard that MDF just comes in a natural wood finish. Did you paint on top of that?

  7. Justin says:

The MDF comes primed. The paint is behr flat enamel.

  8. Tiffany Ivey says:

Is the lighting from above, floor, or both? And, did you use colored or white lighting on the slats?
    Thx!

  9. Justin Spina says:

They are light from above with LED lights.

  10. Tiffany Ivey says:

Sorry to bother… But, did you use more white LED’s or colored?

    • Justin Spina says:

      Hey Tiffany,

They are color LEDS. American DJ Punch LED Pro. They run around $199 Each. I have 8 of them lighting that.

Is there any kind of drapery behind for the black out effect?

    Hello Justin,

Quick question, can you give some more details about the metal frames you used to hang the boards from? If you had a picture of it that would be great.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Thank you very much.

Can you tell me more about the metal frame? What department of Home Depot and how did you secure the MDF? Would cheaper, pallet-wood work?

  18. Lisa says:

Can you please share the height and width of each individual strip? Are they 6×4″ strips? Also looking for the spacing of the pattern on each tower. How much space in between each strip? And starting with the top strip what are the measurements for laying out the following strips in the pattern?
