PVC For Me

Jeff Poole from UBC Miami in Florida brings us this sweet use of PVC tubes.

To create this masterpiece they used Reset frames. They filled the frames with sliced PVC tubes arranged in a matrix. Then they shined some lights on them.

The coolest feature though is the massive PVC wall. They stacked PVC atop each other and projected onto it. Brilliant! Looks like an expensive Versa Tube set for much cheaper.

    This is great!

What diameter is the pvc slices used for the side walls? We are having a ventilation issue with our central heat and air due to our intakes being behind stage. This concept would look great and serve as vent for out intakes.

I think PVC slices are 4″ pipe.

Did you front project on the pipe wall? and how did you attach the pvc pipes?

    • daniel liu says:

The pipe wall was front projected, and masked to contain spillage. the pipes were attached to two chains by drilling into the back of them and then carefully flown(it was extremely heavy) with 2 electric chain hoists.

Quick question. What did you use to cut the 4″ PVC pipe? I am using a similar design, but without the frames so that I can make shapes and want to make sure that my slices are the same. Thanks.

  9. Jeff says:

We used a 10″ chop saw to cut all the PVC…though it’s worth mentioning that we used about 3 blades as the PVC wears them out pretty quickly. The ReSet frames are just pre-fabbed aluminum frames. We have a yearly subscription to the product through Clark. See http://www.clark.is for more info.

    Hope that helps.

Are the pipes for the wall 4″ also?

  11. Josh says:

How did you attach the PVC in the frames to each other? Some of them have zip ties what about the others?

    • Jeff Poole says:

We used PVC glue to glue 7 circles to each other and the zip ties helped keep the different sections attached while the glue was drying.

  12. Savannah Gardner says:

How did you clean the PVC pipe? What did you use to get the ink off?

  13. Falicia says:

what was the cost of making the pvc in the reset frame?
