Throwback: Shadows and Boxes

Tom Clark from Riverside Church in Big Lake, MN, brings us this great stage design using shadows and boxes. (Originally posted March 2011)

To create the boxes they took sheets of corrugated plastic and tied them together at the top, middle and bottom with tiny white zip ties. Then they screwed them at the concave parts in the design to the wall.

The middle boxes were the same, only cut in half. To make use of their baptismal later on in the stage design life they reassembled the middle boxes to create a 4×3 matrix projected onto my a projector with a mask (with motion backgrounds).

The design is lit by 8 Chauvet COLORdash’s battens and 2 Chauvet Colorband RGB’s. Then a NEC projector lit the 4×3 pattern design.

What sizes did you cut the corrugated plastic into and who did you buy from?

      Hey Bobby,
I don't know what sizes they are exactly, but I will find out for you! But, on the two sides, we did not cut the pieces that we bought at all, and then in the middle, they are cut exactly in half. But, I will measure the next time I get a chance.

We bought them from the local Home Depot. But, if the closest one is a far away from you, I would call ahead and see how many they have in stock. We had to go to two different Home Depots to get all the sheets that we need.

      Hope this helps.
