Throwback: Strung Fabric

Harry Frankenfeld from Northshore Baptist Church in Kirkland, WA brings us this great variation of the string art concept. (Originally posted August 2013)

They built this set specifically for a series on Joseph, called “Dreamer”.

They started by screwing large eye-screws to 2x4s of varying lengths. Four they mounted to their grid with 12″ sidearms, and four they mounted to plywood squares for sandbagging to the deck. For midpoints, they used shorter 2×4 and eye-screws, u-bolted to black pipe threaded into flanges on the floor, and tied into the grid with swivel clamps.

Then they laced the eye-screws with 1/4″ sash cord, tying off at the top, running through the midpoint, then tying off at the deck. Lighting the “surfaces” with ETC Vivid washes gave them bright colors, and the contrast from the curtains made them stand out nicely. They carried over the pendants from a previous set, and used ETC Source Four Pars mounted on short pipe structures as backlight for the band.

Really unique. I love the eye hook idea for this and can see utilizing that in the future.

I love the look. Wish I could see some “behind the scenes” pictures to see how the mid-section was connected to the floor.
    Very creative! Nice job.

I love this idea for our Easter set this year but I would like some behind the scenes pictures if possible. I’m a little confused by some of the wording.
