That Old Rustic Cross

Chad Brewer from New Song Church in New Bern, NC brings us this design inspired by A Mighty Fortress.

They used 24 total pallets donated to them by a local “big-box” store. Each section was constructed with a 2 x 4 frame and the pallets placed inside the frames and nailed in. The construction took 4 people a solid 8 hr day to complete.

The up lighting came from 4 PAR 64 cans clamped to the bottom pallet in each upright. The cross was constructed using recycled broken pallets and a 2 x 4 frame underneath to give some depth. It was lit by 2 LED par cans.

Their stage isn’t very deep and there isn’t any room behind the curtain, so the frames were secured to the header of the back wall at 16′ high. It was braced at several points back into the studs in the wall.

They spent under $100 for materials to make the whole set.

LOVE THIS! Our church has access to free pallets and have been trying to figure out how to use them. Our back drop area is not nearly as large but we can use your instructions for putting the pallets together. Thanks for posting!
