The Shower Curtain

Derek Studt from Generations Christian Church in Trinity, Florida brings us this towering tile wall. (originally posted April 2012)

To create this set they purchased 6mil plastic rolls and cut them into 2′ squares. To remove the creases from the plastic, they steamed each square with a steamer. This also added a cool texture. Next, they grommeted the squares and crinkled them up for more texture. They used 3″ binder rings which can be purchased from school suppliers to connect the tiles together.

To light the set they used LEDs (a mix of Color Blasts and Elation TriBrick 36s) to warm the truss, and Ocean Optics Seachangers to light the tiles.

  1. Wow, what a great idea. I think I may have to try this…to a degree. We have a much smaller stage. Thanks for sharing.

    Hey Danny,
Thanks. We were able to get a lot of miles out of these tiles. Let me know if you have any other questions about it. I’d love to see some pics if you do something similar.

We just took down something very similar to that. We used rolls of vinyl carpet liner. The toughest part of the job was the grommets. We used shower hooks to connect the panels. Our stage is much smaller. I will have to post pics on here.

How large were your truss – is it 12″ box? Where did you get them?

    well done!

  7. Derek Studt says:

    Hey Mike,
Thanks! Yes, it’s 12″ box. We bought our truss from a couple of different local vendors that we have built relationships with over the years.

    Hello,
    This looks awesome!
What lights did you use to light the trussing?

  9. Derek Studt says:

    Hi Ryan,
    Thanks!

We used a mix of Color Kinetics ColorBlast 12s and Elation TriBrick 36s to warm the truss.

    Thanks,
    Derek
