Jesse Snipes and Mark Edmondson from Capo Beach Church in Capistrano Beach, California brings us these Christmas trees for their stage.
Their design inspiration for this backlit Christmas tree scenery came from several churches including Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, CA, Grace Church in Camas, WA, and Lake City Community Church in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The trees varied in height from 9 feet to 16 feet and were all made of stained 1/2″ plywood ripped into different widths then staple gunned onto a 2×4 or 2×2 post as the trunk. They used patio string lights with G40 bulbs to string behind the trees then stapled bulbs peaking out through the gaps. Aside from the prep work staining and cutting the plywood, the entire assembly and lighting only took 2 days with a handful of amazing volunteers.
Are they freestanding or attached somehow?
Hi Jeremy,
Each tree was attached to 50 pound cement bases we had laying around that we made some modifications to so that they could hold each tree. 3 of the trees behind the stage were hanging from truss simply because attaching them to the ground with cement bases would have been the way. Hope that helps!
Hi Jeremy,
Each tree was attached to 50 pound cement bases we had laying around that we made some modifications to so that they could hold each tree. 3 of the trees behind the stage were hanging from truss simply because attaching them to the ground with cement bases would have been the way. The three tallest trees were attached at the top for safety reasons – so most were freestanding. Hope that helps!
You guys did a great job with this. We’re looking to do similar trees for our Christmas gatherings & really like the ratios and aesthetics of your trees. We have a smaller stage & would need to downscale everything, but I was wondering if you have any measurements or drawings that would help in the fabrication process? Like how wide they were at the base and how wide the slats were in relation to the height of the trees? If you have any documents that would help, my email is john.weaver@newlife.tv. Thank you!
