Throwback: Umbrelly Fish

Kyle Kutter from The Ark Church in Conroe, TX brings us this cool umbrella stage design.

The Media team at The Ark Church was excited to roll out our new Umbrella set for Easter at The Ark 2011. Their main stage contains a center screen that is primarily used for worship lyrics, videos, scriptures and bullets (using ProPresenter and Broadcast Pix). Because of this layout they’re forced to build sets that work around this rear projected screen plus work with the space the worship team needs.

So with some white umbrellas, black tie line, and some cheap LEDs, they got a Spring set.

Could you share where you bought that many white umbrellas in bulk?

Hey Kyle, Which LED’s did you use? Do you use imag in the room? What I am wondering is if you get any flicker. We have a big stage and we need a bunch of LED’s to fill it, but the cheapie ones flicker on video.

    Thanks.

    • Adam, we purchased the LED from a local source here in Houston called http://www.cheaplights.com. Yes the name says it all. We purchased the 24 of the (114-RGB-C64). The fixture is about the size of Source Four Floor Par. They work great. Have not noticed the flicker on video. Please keep in mind that you get what you pay for. They don’t have the color range that some Chauvet and Phillips/Color Kinetics have. They are also 1/8 the price. But they have worked well and plan on purchasing more in the future.

I also wanted to mention these for anyone on this site. I have had these for 5 years now, I haven’t had any issues with burn out or color mixing issues. They are by far the best color for the price especially if you’re doing wall uplighting or the “glow” effect with a white object and directing your light behind it. When I use Chauvet or AMDJ style LED’s I have gotten a lot of circling issues where you can see how the LED’s circle. With these there haven’t been any discoloration. I haven’t used the cheaper ones on this site but would imagine they are similar quality. http://trinorthlighting.com/Store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=94_302&products_id=515 Also, they’re 25% off right now!
