Jeff Abbott from Ada Bible Church in Grand Rapids, MI brings this very cool use of bent PVC. (Originally posted October 2014)
For their summer 2014 stage design, Jeff wanted to build something very organic feeling, with no straight lines in it.
The construction material was 6 different shapes cut from 1/4″ 4×8 Luan sheets stained 6 different colors. The white Squiggly lines they made from 1/2″ PVC pipe. The PVC pipe was cleaned with Acetone to remove the printing and labels, and heated up using PVC Bendit. Then put the PVC into one of 4 different forms to give it shape.
They made base plates with grooves they cut to align the bottom of the pieces in rows. Then they drilled holes in the bases to receive the PVC pipe. Three L-brackets were used to hold 2×2’s upright to support the stained pieces.
The PVC pipe glowed in contrast to the stained wood and gave them some great lighting looks.

were you able to rent or borrow the PVC bandit, or did you buy one. They are a bit pricey for a single use. Love the look!
I bought one. Yes, a little expensive, but I bent a lot of pipes…and I will likely use it again for another set.
I love seeing all the CMG Motions as part of your beautiful set design. I see a couple from the January 2014 CMG Mega Pack and the August 2013 CMG Mega Pack. If anyone else wants them you can download them here… http://www.churchmotiongraphics.com/motion-backgrounds/
