This will be our last Christmas post for awhile, but by popular request, this is a longer and more detailed back story on the original post. Marci Beaty with Fairlawn Nazarene Church shares this terrific design that works great for a room that doesn’t have black walls. From Marci:
We needed an option that worked well for a wall that wasn’t black. Here are the components and items for each:
String Trees: 20’x2, 16’x2
Paper Trees: 12’x2, 10’x2, 8’x2
Small Evergreen Trees: 4’x6
String Trees:
-Credit to String Trees post
-Yarn from Joanns (7 skeins)
– used 3 spotlights
– Bases were CPVC pipe from Home Depot – you can make your bases as wide as you want (you’ll need couplers)
– lit with 3 spotlights inside the tree
The HOW:
-precut the string
– drill hole through the base for each strand (useable again, so the time spent is worth it)
White Trees
The WHAT:
– furring strips from Menards
-2x4s for base
– white bulletin paper from Hobby Lobby
– coffee filters from Walmart
– Puzzle glue worked best (tried rubber cement, not the fav)
The HOW:
– Build your frames out of furring strips and long screws
– Wrap one side with bulletin paper (staples worked fine)
– fold coffee filters in half and start laying like shingles on a roof
– Cut strips of bullletin paper as wide as the tree you’re trying to cover, and SCRUNCH! Then staple on the tree
– Lit with LED light bars (the 12′ and 10′ used 4′ bars and 2 light pacs, the 8′ used 2′ bar)
Frame Evergreen Trees
The WHAT:
– furring strips from Menards
– plain garland from Walmart (50’+ needed for 3, depending on how tight you wrap the garland)
– warm light strand in green wire from Walmart (we used one, could use more to fill the space, or have different colors of garland!)
– Green pipe cleaner to attach the light strand
