Boxes of Fruit

Shauna Hernandez from Covina Assembly of God in Covina, CA brings us this stage design filled with boxes of fruit of the spirit and other character traits.

The biggest challenge in their sanctuary is creating a smaller, more intimate atmosphere. They have a very high ceiling and deep stage with five rows of stairs in the back. They wanted to try to contemporize their stage and bring some new design elements for a special series they were doing. Because they had a very small budget, they used 4′ x 8′ pieces of white foam core to create reflective panels that would cut the depth of the stage in half. Each panel cost about $11. They screwed the bottom of each panel directly into the stairs and used black gaff tape and black foam core strips to create supports on the back of each one. Using black helped the supports disappear. The white panels reflected the LED lights from above, and they also had can lights shooting up at each panel to create more contrast and variety during the service.

The second creative element they used for this series was stacked boxes wrapped in colorful fadeless paper. They used words taken from the series and printed them out using their large format printer to adhere to each box.
