Classic Reboot

Rick Satterfield from I Am Church in Monroe, Michigan shares this amazing transformation of a classic worship space. There has been a TON of interest in the Church Stage Design Ideas Facebook Group lately about how to modernize old school sanctuaries. What I love most about these designs is that they respect and honor so many great things about the classic architecture, while just updating the feel. We’ll share another design like this tomorrow as well!

A few points to note that make this design work so well:

  1. Keeping the stained glass and classic lights. So glad they did this. It keeps the classic feel and so many people (me included) love stained glass.
  2. Removing the pews & choir section. Swapping the pews for chairs updates the look dramatically as soon as anyone walks in the door.
  3. Stacked stone on the back wall. This was a great use of natural stone to warm up what may have been a stuffy, sterile feeling space before. Great way to completely change the feel of the room without having to paint all the walls or change all the light fixtures, etc.
