Lit Stained Glass

Ben Newsom from Eagle Church in Whitestown, IN brings us this awesome stained glass look.

From Ben: Since our 2020 easter set had to be scaled down due to COVID, we decided to go all out for Easter this year. We went with a play on stain glass windows (Inspired by Zach Williams Backdrop). In total, we build 7 windows. 2 – 8′, 2 – 12′, 2 – 16′ and a 20′ one for the center. We used 13 – 24 channel DMX decoders to allow us to control each window pain independently. In total there are 92 pains with each pain using at least 8′ of LED tape. When the set was all completed we used around 800 feet of LED tape to pull off this set.

To build each window we build a wooden frame and then cut out each pain. Once the windows were built and painted black we stapled a white transparent cloth we had to the inside of it. Then we put the LED tape into each pain. Then it was all wired up and tested before being set in place for Good Friday.

We spend about $2,000
$1400 on tech (LED Tape, DMX Decoders, Power Supplies, and wire)
$600 on lumber
