Troy Picou from Grand Rapids First in Grands Rapids, MI brings us this giant Transformer on their stage.
This is a 13′ transformer created for a children’s ministry series called Transformed. It was created out of recycled plastics and took 2 moths to make.
He was created out of recycled plastics. They used juice bottles, laundry detergent bottles, used toner cartridges from their color copier, water guns for the face, and tons of different planters. He had a PVC frame for all his limbs and that connected to a metal frame. They used donated wrecked bumpers from a collision repair shop for the outer car parts. He had LEDs throughout and his head was servo-controlled and looked side to side in a programable loop pattern. It took Troy two months to build with his wife and kids and three friends in their children’s ministry.
The background stuff was their normal stage setup—made from metal conduit and Coroplast. It was lit with tri 9 and 6 intelligent lights.

I was wondering if you’d be willing to rent this for 4 week sermon series? I’d fly up rent a uhaul and return it when the series was completed…
Hi Steve thanks for the interest but he is not movable. He is being permanently mounted in our kids building.
What types of paint did you use to get a uniform look? How did you get the paint to adhere to the polyethylene plastics? Did you paint all the parts or did you chrome plate some? Thanks
Sanded each part primed some of the parts and used
Krylon plastic spray paint and Adhesion promoter spray.
Everything is made out of plastic and everything is spray painted.
Hope that helps.
Would you be interested in building another one for a price? Would really like to do a series on the transformed life….
Hi Steve although it was a fun project, I just don’t have the time to make another. 3 months of nights and weekends is not easy to come by. Lol.
Amazing what you can do with leftover plastics ( and a few bumpers here and there !) Thanks for the tips on painting the plastic ! Thanks for sharing -God Bless !
Thanks for the comments.
Do you happen to have the instructions on how it was built so we could attempt to do it? I would love to try and attempt this.
