Stage Designs

Plates and Columns

Nathan Anderson from Aberdeen First Assembly in Aberdeen, SD brings us this stage design featuring two main material looks.

From Nathan: This design was inspired by Platos and various other designs using screen door material. We hung the screen door material by wrapping it around a 1×4 board 2 or 3 times, then stapling it to the board. Then we screwed in eye hooks to the board, through the material. Then the board is hung from unistrut eye hooks at the top. There is also a 2×4 at the bottom wrapped in the same manner. We used a 2×4 for extra weight at the bottom so that it would put a little more tension on the material.

For lighting the material, we used 4 ADJ Ultra Bar 10, one at the top of each column. The lights are extended out from the unistrut 12 inches on a 1 inch square tube bar that we had fabricated for this design. This allows us to get a better angle with the lights so that the light can carry all the way down to the floor.

We have had the unistrut at the top of our stage for some time now. It is invaluable for attaching and hanging multiple stage designs.

For the plate wall, we used square 10 inch plates found on Amazon. The plates are attached to two sheets of ¼ inch luan plywood, painted black. The plywood is hung using french cleat hangers. The plate wall is lit with 4 Monoprice LED pars. We use concrete sonotubes that are painted black to help focus the light on the plate wall.

The plates are a stroke of brilliance, and I love Monoprice pars, so hard to beat the value!

A couple of questions: which specific Monoprice pars did you use, and where do you have them positioned? I can’t quite tell what angle you’re hitting the plate wall from (so awesome job hiding them)!

This looks fantastic! I have been thinking about doing something like this for a while. For the columns did you use bright or charcoal aluminum screen material? Also how did you get the crinkle look on it?

What screen door material did you use?
