Neville Lauridsen from Salvation Army in Palmerston North, New Zealand brings us this design that reminds me of the rubber band ball in my office. (originally posted February 2012)
They started by using LED fairy lights to form the shape of Christmas trees on the sides. Because the trees were see-through…sight lines weren’t affected by them. They made the starts out of cardboard painted silver with added glitter.
They made the balls with plastic flute board. They cut it into strips and use rivets with washers to assemble. Inspired by Spheres and Trees.
Then they rented star cloth a star cloth.

Hi — we are looking to create stars on the black velvet curtain on our stage (we meet in a high school theater). I see you used pinspot lights…is there a lens over the lights to create the dots on the fabric? I’m not familiar with lights of this sort. Or, just wanted to know how exactly you created the stars. Thanks!
Hi.
The stars on the back black drape are actually a star cloth. This has tiny LED lights all through the cloth. We hired the star cloth in.
Hope this helps
