At Oakwood Christian Church in Enid, Oklahoma, Alex Kapke recently shared a stunning yet budget-friendly lighting project that blends rustic charm with modern flair. The design is deceptively simple, yet creates a striking visual impact.
The process began with reclaimed pallet wood, sourced from a local scrap yard, bringing an eco-friendly touch to the project. Temporary walls were built using 2 by 4s, and covered with 1/4-inch OSB (Oriented Strand Board), which was then painted black to create a sleek backdrop.
For the lighting, Alex chose dimmable Edison bulbs from Amazon, adding a warm, vintage feel to the modern setup. The LED poles were crafted from 2 by 2s, also painted black, and outfitted with LED tape that was carefully attached to the poles, providing a clean, glowing effect.
In total, the project cost around $500, with the majority of the budget spent on the 2 by 4s and OSB. The LED tape came in at a modest $50, while the Edison bulbs cost about $75.
This affordable yet beautiful design showcases how creativity and resourcefulness can transform a space without breaking the bank. It’s a perfect example of blending rustic and modern elements to create something uniquely striking.
