Precious Ayorinde from WEBIC Youth Centre in Ojota, Lagos, Nigeria brings us this slatted design.
From Precious: The design started with installing a 3/4″ plywood backdrop for the entire stage. We proceeded to attach 8 pieces of 2″x4″ wood to the 3/4″ plywood board at intervals of 2ft. These strips of 2″x4″ wood would hold the final pieces of the design. The plywood board and 2’x4″ were then painted entirely black.
We bought 2 packs of white “PVC roofing sheets” as it’s called in Nigeria because coroplast isn’t readily available and is a bit more expensive. A pack of these sheets has 12 sheets that measure 18ft by 10 inch each. The PVC roofing sheet was cut into smaller pieces of 4ft by 5inches which gave us 8 pieces per sheet.
We then glued the cutout pvc roofing sheets to the 2″x4″ strips of wood with 2 inch space between each sheet.
For lighting, I used small 18watts LED lights with 2 leds lighting up each column of the design, bringing the total lights to 8 pieces. I wanted to use 4 LED wash lights but the costs were out of budget so we purchased the smaller round ones for about $12 each. The entire design took about 24 hours to complete with 4 people working simultaneously.
Total Design Cost
We had the plywood sheets before from previous designs.
PVC Roofing Sheet – $35 for both packs
Super Glue – $25
Lights – $100
Total cost – $160
Wow!
This is absolutely amazing and creative.
