Sundry Trees

Crispin Powley from Missionary Grove Baptist Church in Camden, TN brings us this Christmas stage design.

From Crispin: It’s a very simple adaptation of 2 different concepts. For the trees, we used 1/2” foam insulation boards cut into varying size triangles. We used spray adhesive to glue different coverings such as wrapping paper & aluminum foil. We also spray painted a couple & used glue sticks & sprinkled on glitter for effect. We cut them with an electric “hot knife” from Amazon. Each individual tree, or maybe pair of trees, is illuminated by an LED bar or can.

The cross is an existing piece from our previous stage background. It is not that simple. It’s 16’ tall & weighs about 1000 LBs. One of our church members built it for us from oak that he personally planed from his property. The congregation often remarks that they love the cross, so we found a concept that utilized it as well. We affixed LED strip lights to the back, outer edges. We draped a very sheer, translucent fabric around it to catch & filter the LED light. We then placed a table in front of the cross on which we sat a manger. We wanted it elevated to be more noticeable/focal than on the ground. It is filled with LEDS also to project light outward from within the manger.
