The Multi-Colored Lanterns

Angela Yee from University Covenant Church in Davis, California wasn’t content with just the Green Lantern on her stage…she needed more.

Angela was inspired by the lantern scene from the movie Tangled.

Dave Cripe, their construction volunteer, did some research on lanterns and came up with some designs on his own. Over a few weeks, he made the lanterns by hand – painting them and applying the paper. The lanterns were made of plywood and the paper was vellum paper – which comes in rolls.

They attached chains to the top of the lanterns and wiring for the lighting inside. They used light outlets from IKEA and put incandescent bulbs in them so they could be dimmed. They also bought various shaped paper lanterns from IKEA.

They put the lanterns in their approximate positions on the ground before hanging them. Then they hung the large lanterns from ropes attached to their cyc booms. Then they added different colored gels to light the lanterns.

Check out Angela’s blog for a few more details.

Question: Was the Vellum paper you used….regular Vellum or translucent vellum paper?
