Joshua Hoegh from First Baptist Church of Elgin in Elgin, Illinois brings us this Christmas display inside and outside their auditorium.
This year, their sermon series for Christmas was entitled “Seeing Is Believing”. It examined what people see at Christmas, and what people see in us as Christians. Something very visual that nearly everyone (at least in the Chicago area) can relate to at Christmastime are the Macy’s storefront window—or the Fields’ windows, for the more seasoned folks.
The idea of the window displays was something that they felt translated well into the sermon series – recognizing the immediate association that people have with Christmas and the Macy’s window displays, and using that to then ask the question, “What is on display in your life this Christmas?”
As a 4 week series, they were able to create each window in correspondence with that week’s message. Each window included a poem presented in a storybook, and was decorated to artistically represent the “theme” for that week. They took their stage as an opportunity to simply create larger, more grand representations of each storefront window—as you would find at Macy’s. This provided a continuous experience, from the moment you walked in their doors to the moment you left. Everything was intentionally designed and connected to keep people engaged.
The Christmas storefronts are great! Nice job!
