Stage Designs

City Night

Alexander Lehman from Faith Church in St. Louis, MO brings us this cool nighttime cityscape.

From Alexander:  Our new message series Heroes was starting up in mid October so we wanted our stage to reflect the old school comic book style of Heroes. We had several ideas thrown into the table, from creating a Heroes lair, splitting our LED columns into individual panels, to creating a city roof. We needed to create a design that would be able to be done at all 3 of our campuses here in St. Louis as well as our campus in West palm beach, Florida. What we ended up doing was creating a city skyline outline using black Coroplast thanks to our tech and facilities team who came together to bust this design out.

What we did was create cardstock stencils of our skyline that we would then place on top of our black sheets of Coroplast that were gaff taped together. We already had several metal structures on stage with white Coroplast to shine color inside so essentially we plasted the city on top of our structures. For the top area that are city did not cover, we had our graphics team create a custom comic book design that we would put as background above the city. Our previous lighting design was an all column design so for this new design, we decided to go with a floor set up to change it up. Fortunately, we had worn out oil barrels in storage from a stage design that was created years ago. What I decided to do was to use the barrels as platforms for some of our beam fixtures. Our main campus has 6 barrels used. 4 to create a higher platform and then one barrel for a lower platform. By having fixtures on different leveled platforms including the floor, it allows us to create some dynamic looks. To light up the city outline inside our structures we have several COLORado Tour 72 battens that allows us to mix color into our buildings. Yellow definitely gives us the comic book city feel but during worship we change the colors to match the rest of our rig and LED wall backgrounds. The only thing we had to purchase was the black Coroplast.

Our lighting rig at our main campus consist of:

24 Chauvet QWashes
14 Chauvet R1 Beams
12 Chauvet Battens

Strung Together Mountain Woods
