Paul Snyder from Fairfax Community Church in Fairfax, VA brings us this craft paper stage design. (from 2012)
They started with their conical Christmas trees. They bought colored kraft paper and folded them into cones. The paper didn’t hold shape on its own so they started with corrugated kraft paper, then added colored paper on top. They added a cylinder between each cone to give the depth between layers.
They made the purple mountains out of painted plywood, and added clouds made from White Coroplast.
A few additional notes on our our setup. The tallest trees were about 6′ tall when finished. We used these three colors/rolls of green paper:

We placed LEDs on the floor between the mountains and trees to light the mountains.
Love it when I’m browsing on here and I see the work of people I know… looks awesome you guys, I want that set for VBS!
Hey Joy, we’ll be done with it in three weeks, just need to figure out how to get it to you without destroying it. Probably time for you to take a road trip back out here. :-)
Wow, thanks! Yeah, let me get my U-Haul rented…
These trees look great! Do you what size/diameter each layer of cone was?
Douglas, I posted the paper tree cone template with dimensions here for free download: http://www.openresources.org/all-things-collide
Let me know if you need anything else.
We just had an issue with the design we had been planning on for Christmas this year. Thanks so much for posting this! It’s going to get us out of a jam and tie in better than our previous idea.
Thanks again!
Daniel
I’m glad the set is working out for you. Here are a few other clips that go well with the set as video backgrounds:

Thanks!
What were the heights of the trees? Did you have a pattern for the clouds or just make them each unique?
The trees were mostly 5′ and 6′ tall (4 or 5 sections each). We had a few that were shorter (2 or 3 sections).
The mountains were made from the cheap plywood sheets and were 8′ tall (one sheet, cut diagonally in half and put together) or about 12′ tall (two sheets with a little left over).
We cut the clouds free hand and I think only had 2 different patterns but flipped some of them horizontally to make it look like there were 4 different patterns. We kept them all flat on the bottom edge.
Cool. Thanks John!
Ties in great with this Graceway Media theme as well:

I can’t get the link in Open Resources for the tree template to open. Any other suggestions?
Celeste, sorry for the trouble you are having. I tested the download and it seemed to work when logged in. If you are still have difficulties with the file, please contact us through http://www.openresources.org/contact and we will email it you.
This looks great!
