Alex Robinson from Capital Area Christian Church in Mechanicsburg and Etters, PA brings us this stage that looks like a boxing ring.
Their Easter message this year was “The Fighter” (idea from CCV in Arizona). They wanted to create a boxing ring feel at both of their campuses.
The posts were made out of Coroplast and gaff tape and were recycled from another set design.
They used 16′ strips of RGB DMX controllable LED tape purchased from Amazon. They already had a DMX controller for their LED tape that they purchased for the backlighting on a wooden cross that was hanging in their “gymnatorium.” They had to purchase another DMX controller for their other campus, and they took a chance on this cheap one. It worked well.
They used quarter round trim attached to each post and spray painted flat black to provide support for the LED tape.
They finished the design off with blue “all weather” carpet squares (purchased cheap at a remnant store) in the middle to give the boxing ring appearance and their campus pastors were able to preach on the carpet (gaff taped to the stage). Also, they got stools for either side of the “ring.” They found some motion backgrounds that tied this all together well too.
They did a huge “stage reveal” too, at the beginning of the service. The worship leader and lead guitar player stood in front of the main curtain while the song, “Jesus Reigns” (New Life Worship) began. They had a secondary projector setup to project a motion background that had different names and titles for Jesus on a black background fading in and out while they sang (this same projector was used to project and animated custom countdown where 2 boxer silhouettes sparred off prior to the service start). Then they opened the curtain as the lights and boxing ring came up to full intensity on the stage.
Is it possible to see a video of when y’all revealed that to your church? Sounds awesome!
Thanks, Joshua! I wish we did! As far as I know, this was not captured on video, although I might be able to look back and see if anyone shared to facebook. We are not doing any videocasting or streaming yet (though hopefully soon!).
Here’s the motion we used on the curtain before it opened.

We do also have the custom video and graphic resources we put together for this if anyone else interested we’d be happy to share.
Hello,
what kind of lights did you use in the coroplast posts?
Hi, Cameron! We used some generic LED par cans. These were the perfect size for the columns because they have base/stands that are exactly 1′ square. So, we scored a 4′ x 8′ sheet of coroplast at 1′ intervals (along the 4′ side) and folded this into a column, taping the edges where the sides joined with gaff tape. Anyway, this column fits snugly over the stands of the LED par cans and can really be held up by the light on the stand.
How did you attach LED tape lights to towers?
Hi Jimmy! Sorry for the delay. We kept it really simple and just made some notches along the back of the coroplast columns and inserted the ends of the quarter round/led tape strips into the notches.
How was the LED lights connected to the columns?
Sorry for the delay! I don’t know if this is useful to you anymore or not, but we kept it really simple and just made some notches along the back of the coroplast columns and inserted the ends of the quarter round/led tape strips into the notches.
Did you just use the led light strips, or LED rope lights? The link to the lights you used didn’t work. Also, did you use a diffuser over the light strips? Thank you, Carrie
