Repeat the Projection

Holly Leigh Swader Smith from First Baptist Church in Trussville, AL brings us this Christmas look.

From Holly: We have movers hiding as well and we won’t show the environmentals until probably Candlelight Services, so each week, we will add another level of surprise at walk-in and throughout the services. Sunday, the trees and bows and poinsettias along with a little lighting will be the surprise and we’ll build from there. We’ll have some haze for a few events so that is hiding in there as well. Since we can’t have a choir this year, we filled the loft with 20 trees and polyfill as snow.

We hired a different group each week to do a mini concert each Sunday of Advent since we can’t have our big show. We do have a screen that comes down in front of the baptistry as well, but I didn’t have it down for pics. We made a few adjustments since I took these as well, adjusting some up lights on the wreathes and adding 160 poinsettias to the stage. We have a few more movers we’ll add to front of stage in a couple of weeks.

This took 30 hours of work over two and a half days this week with a few choir volunteers and my favorite intern who was home this week from college. Having someone work with you to be a sounding board, to brainstorm with, to problem solve with and to help run all the power and DMX, and patch all the extra movers, LEDs, trees and garland into Vista takes a lot less time and makes the experience a lot more fun.

The environmental projection projectors are 10+ years old but they are Panasonic DW6300. It takes 3 of them working together and you can use a Hippotizer or ProPresenter to send the Triplewide image to them over arcnet. We need to upgrade to 4k because all the LEDs we installed can wash out most images.
