Christmas Designs

Christmas Livestream

Will Smith from First Redeemer Church in Cumming, GA brings us this Christmas Eve communion livestream setup.

From Will: For this design I used a mix of insulation foam sheets, lumber, florals, and lighting to create a living room scene for a streamed Christmas Eve communion service.

Each of the wooden walls are printed on to PhotoTex (adhesive canvas paper) and adhered to foam insulation sheets. The gray walls are painted insulation sheets.

For the fireplace, I built the frame out of 2×4 and insulation foam, then used a hot knife to carve the structure. Finally, Painted to look like wood on top and stones for the surround. For the fire, I Propped up a TV looping a fireplace movie with an electric fireplace in front for depth.

I owned the two flocked trees from a previous project (purchased at Walmart) and trimmed Leland cypress for free garland and filling. I sprayed the cypress branches with snow spray.

For the artwork, I designed and printed in PhotoTex and applied it to a round plywood piece. The frame is PlastiWall cut to 4” thick and painted brown. I cut a hole and added the light socket (bought on Amazon) and floral (pieces bought on Amazon). Used Christmas ribbon to hang them from a C-stand.

For the lanterns, I made each lantern out of 1×2 and Brad nails, painted then brown, then added florals and light sockets.

In all, I spent $800 on this project, but already owned the furniture and trees.

Hey Will, this is a really cool design. I’m wondering if you could give more detail about how you did the wall signs. I can’t even find PlastiWall online that isn’t like a paste. Also how did you do the PhotoTex?

Hey Chris! The plastiwall was in 4×8 sheets and I bought it at Home Depot. They might call it something else, but it’s in the same aisle as the prefabbed sheet goods (bricks, etc). And SUPER flexible. In my Home Depot, that also happens to be in the aisle with moldings.

For the PhotoTex- I did the design in photoshop and printed it on the material (purchased at freedompaper.com) using my large format printer… if you don’t have a LFP, check with a local printshop about the possibility of printing on adhesive material.
