Easter Designs

Risen Words

Charlton Cupp from Harvest Baptist in Paragould, Arkansas brings us this awesome Easter setup.

From Charlton: Our backdrop for our first Resurrection Day in a new facility…I got the idea from a few other designs that used “Risen” on stage.

I began by finding a font that I liked, then I printed that on transparency and used an old-school overhead projector to throw the letters on 4×8 sheets of 1/4″ luan panel board. I used 7 sheets total…one for each letter and the rock bookends. I traced the letters with a sharpie and had a fella cut out the letters with a jigsaw. He also used a wood rasp to clean up the edges.

The letters ended up being 7′ tall.

It took a gallon of paint to put 2 good coats on the letters. I laid out the letters on the floor to get a proper spacing for the frame. We ripped 2×4 boards in half to build a frame for the letters. The frame ended up being 19′ x 6′. I painted the frame in between the letters a flat black to help hide it. We used small wood screws to attach the letters to the frame, stood the frame & letters up, and then used angled cut 2x4s for leg braces in the back…weighted down with sand bags.

For the faux rock ends, I ordered these decorative wall panels from Amazon. I ordered 3 packs of 10, and it covered what I needed.

I used 4 tubes of liquid nails to secure the panels to the 4×8 sheets of luan. Then I used an oscillating tool to trim the top to look more like a rock wall. After the glue dried, I added support to the back of the rock walls with 2x4s and weighted them with sand bags. They are free-standing on their own…not attached to letters. I picked up some fake vines at Hobby Lobby to help accent the rock. Our interior decorators added some tulips between letters and a few rocks at the base.

I used 4′ Chauvet light bars to uplight it all…6 in the front and 2 as backlights. It turned out really nice and was quite the “wow” factor for our Resurrection Sunday celebration!
