Building a Dynamic Worship Backdrop on a Budget: Our DIY LED Wall By Ryan Garey at Kenmore Alliance Church in Buffalo, NY  Ryan shared, “we needed a dynamic backdrop for worship but didn’t have the budget for a commercial LED wall. So, we decided to build our own. The goal was to maximize creativity while minimizing costs, and the result was a custom LED wall built using repurposed materials and clever design.”

We started by constructing a frame from 2×4 lumber and mounting LED tape in aluminum channels. Despite imperfect lumber, we used a chalk line to ensure precise alignment of the lights. We then integrated 21 individually controllable LED strips, using DMX decoders and power supplies we already had. Steel cables and griplocks provided secure mounting and easy adjustments during setup.

The total cost was about $1,500—far less than commercial solutions. While we used standard LED tape, future iterations could explore pixel tape for even more dynamic effects.

This project shows that with resourcefulness and creativity, churches can build professional-looking stage designs without breaking the bank. Our DIY LED wall is a testament to what can be accomplished with a little innovation.
