Throwback: Traditional to Modern

Dale Kasperson from Trinity Life Center brings us this stage design that could work for both traditional and contemporary services. (Originally posted July 2011)

The LED back lit cross is the centerpiece of the room. They used Acclaim X-sticks with SMD LEDs to illuminate the cross. They also used several LED zoom fixtures from Elation Professional and 4 Design Spot 300 Pro moving fixtures.

The textures are shear IFR sails free hung from the grid above. They also used 3 very powerful Design LED 72 panels with 72 3 watt LEDs. In addition they used some Architectural LED fixtures to light the side walls of the sanctuary. Currently they have a black backdrop on the upstage wall. The white wall behind it looks great with the colors as well.

I love this stage set up so much because my church is in the stage where the younger people are starting to come in and the older people arent used to the new stuff! I was wondering however where it is possible to purchase fire proof materials for stage design!? My pastor says we need it for our fire permit! Im new at all this but I really want our sanctuary to look tight!

    • Jeff says:

Yes, go to dazian.com or rosebrand.com. They make theatrical fabrics with fireproof rating and certificates for your fire marshall.

Rosco makes several flame retardants that you can use to treat materials yourself. This can sometimes be a more cost effective option.

What are the three hinged screens below the cross made from?

  3. Jason says:

Yes, I would also like to know what material the hanging screens are made from. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The hinged screens appear to be made with wood.
The church I am currently working for is working on a facelift using hinged screens made of 1×4 pine and 1/2 grid fabric.

The 1/2 grid is a silky/ nylon feel but is heat resistant. It also diffuses the light and gives a nice glow feel for colored lights and even natural tungsten light.

In the film world, I have used 1/2 grid and full grid for softening the light shinning on an actor or to even out the sun light to a soft illumination.

Here is where to buy the 1/2 grid

and here is a sample image of what our stage backdrop will be.

What sort of digicam is this? That is definitely a decent premium quality.
