Kevin Fogerty from Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg, IL brings us this styrofoam design.
They bought four or five 4’x8’ styrofoam sheets from Lowe’s. They got different thicknesses at .5”, .75”, and 2” to add depth. A friend had collected some styrofoam cases from a bunch of string lights he had bought. (Those are the pieces with the scooped out parts in them. Looks like an egg carton. Not necessary, but added some variety.)
They cut all the sheets to 1’x2’ pieces and painted them tan, grey, and white. Then they used liquid nails to glue them to plywood that they cut down so you couldn’t see it from the front. They screwed in some eye bolts and hung from the ceiling with cables.
