Castling

Anthony Rice from Liberty Church in Gulf Breeze, FL brings us this castle stage design.

This design was created for their kids Vacation Bible School. They wanted to transport the kids to a new place in time with a wall to wall stage design. The design was built in 7×6 panels so they could fit them in and out the doors since they had to build and paint off site. With simple 2×2 framing and 1/8″ luan board covering it was light weight, easy to paint, and easy on the budget as well. In total, they spent about $400 including paint. To get the brick look, they cut brick shapes out of cheap carpet, attached them to wood pieces, and used them as stamps. After that, they went back with a sponge and added a bit of detail. For the round columns on either side, they used the same framing and cover, since it was easy to bend.

Did you add on the Lion decoration with paint or with a 3d sculpted form ????

    • Anthony Rice says:

We bought the lion heads from a novelty shop. They are plastic formed and very realistic looking. We painted them with stone spray paint from the hardware store.

From far away, it looks like a lot a weight. Great job with stone painting and lighting.

I’m actually more interested in the black ceiling tiles above the stage only, I’ve been thinking about changing ours above our stage to black.

Were yours installed as black or did you change it later? Did you paint them or just buy new tracks/tiles?

    • Anthony Rice says:

These tiles we had installed but they did paint the track that was existing. Not sure how it would work painting the tiles.
