Brandy Gibson from Chestnut Ridge Church in Morgantown, WV brings us this awesome honeycomb of hexagonal pieces. (Originally posted September 2014)
They cut 108 hexagons out of white Coroplast using a router. They hung the pieces using 80lb test braided fishing line and lead split shot. Then they shined lights and a projector on the pieces. The video content provided some cool effects over the masked pieces.

There is no information on what the projector is and how it was setup! I need more details on this, its amazing on what you did!
We used a Benq projector (SH960) that was hanging from our catwalk. That projector isn’t ideal for this, for sure–we made sure the room was very dark and limited our haze to keep things as bright as possible.
Hello I got the projectors, but we would like to learn how to make the hexagons. How can I get the materials list and the how to.
Thank you!
We used 2×2 coroplast squares (like yard sale signs) and cut off the corners to make the hex. I made one that i liked and then used it as a template.
We had them router cut by a sign company. I can send you the Illustrator cut file if you want it.
I’m wanting to do this for our church stage, would you be willing to send me the cut file you used?
Yes this looks great!
love it
Best Design in a while on this website.
This is a great project! Amazing job! I would love to know the specifics on what software you used to control your projection and how much was content you built. Again amazing work. This is one of the best set designs on Church Stage Design Ideas!
,Steven
We made the mapped video using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects. We just made a video that was timed with the music and contained a click track for the musicians.
Such a simple design, but what an amazing use of your projectors. A++
How did you use a router to cut the coroplast?
We ordered them from a local sign company that had them cut with a router.
Are these 180 individual hexagons? Each one hung with fishing line? Or are these panels of shapes?
Yes, individual hexagons hung on about 23 vertical lines of fishing line (two lines were threaded through each hexagon) and the split shot held it in place.
Staff created or volunteer? Any idea how many hours it took to work the mapping part? Approximately how large is your stage? What is the finished dimensions of the hexagonal shapes? Thank you for such a creative piece.
It was staff created. The mask was created very quickly in Illustrator; the content took about 3 solid days to animate in after effects. I believe the hexagons ended up at 22″x22″–our proscenium is 23’x46′ and our stage is about 30′ deep, I think.
Do you give out this video for the projector?
Sure, I will give you the video–it’s timed with the medley of songs we used, so it may not be terribly useful. What’s your email address?
Would like a copy of this video as well, thanks.
I would like to get the files as well if you dont mind. My email address is joshhouse1987@gmail.com
rhwarrenjr@gmail.com . Can you send this to me ?
Here is the link to download the animated video we used:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/aio267n1ip5ix4l/once%2Bforall_medley_final.mp4?dl=0
Kindly send me the video as well and photos of how you were putting the hex in place. Thank you. Wonderful design idea.
What all expressions did you use with AE?
To be honest, I didn’t use any because I’m not extremely proficient with AE. I’m learning to do things as I go, which generally means watching loads of tutorials and taking four times as long to complete a project :)
Could I please request a copy of the video you used on the hexagon wall? Many thanks.
Regards
Euan Bradley

This is probably one of the most awesome stage designs that I have seen on this site when using a projector…it easily is in the top ten- in any scenario- of all time, IMHO.
I would love to see more of the video, of the sound and projection in use. And more of what went into the build of this.
This is very professional quality…If you build it for us, in a easy transportable system, we will purchase. We need it for christian school dances.
My email…bobm53081@yahoo.com
sorry…I can’t believe I made this mistake…probably due to the excitement of your posting…but my email is bobm53081@gmail.com —not yahoo.com. Thank You very much.

This is amazing!
I would love a copy of the videos/photos from this project…
At: wobbly_warthog@hotmail.com
Thanks :)
Great work
I Would love to have that video
Question? How far off of the wall was your projector ?
could you please send me the video for this project.
collin@newlifeacanton.com
It was about 45′ or so from the projector to the wall, I believe.
We began making our Hex wall hangings and the split shot is not holding. Anyone have any ideas for spacing holders in between hex pieces to keep them all uniform and even? Thank you
We used two sizes of split shot–and doubled them up. The larger ones with the ‘teeth’ work best. The other thing you can try is wraping the line around the split shot. Sorry you’re having trouble.
Could you send me the video please?
robbiecofer@gmail.com
Thanks for this awesome design!
I would like this video to look at as well. If you could send it to anthonyd@saddleback.com
Thanks!!
This looks fantastic. Thanks for providing great info on it as well. Having said that, I was wondering if you could give a little more info on how you used the fishing line? Is it attached to bars above the stage? Did you build a framework for them all to hang from? How do you keep them from twisting… just the two lines was enough? Do they move much when your AC or heat kicks on? I’m getting ready to build a very similar set, so I’m super curious on your build techniques. Thanks!! jasonisreading@gmail.com
Excellent looking stage! I would appreciate any information you have about our constructing it …..Thanks so much!

I loved this mapping! If you can send me a copy of that video, thank you. God bless jesusaolmedop@gmail.com
We are actually looking to sell the coroplast hexagons we used for this set. I need to get a count on how many we have sitting in storage, but let me know if you’re interested. I will dig up the animation files for sharing as well.
I’m interested in purchasing them. Our stage is approximately the same size so it would be a great fit.
Awesome, email me at production@theridge.church and I’ll get you details
Here is the final video with click for whoever wants it. Unfortunately the After Effects file and other resources died with my hard drive :(

Hi Brandy, This is amazing job done!
can you send me plz copy of the videos animation files , and pictures from your stage of this project at: edcprint@gmail.com
Thank you very much and God bless
Hi guys! Quick question: how did you attach each panel to each other for uniform spacing? Or were they all floating freely?
We ran braided fishing line through the flutes and added lead split shot as stops beneath the panels.
