Angela Yee from University Covenant Church in Davis, California brings us a scaled down version of Third World Shelter with her own twists and creativity.
Materials used:
- Matte board (donated).
- Sheets of leftover 1″ thick styrofoam.
- 1″x1″ pieces of wood (donated).
- Shish-kabob sticks.
- Spray paint.
Due to their ceiling not being built to support heavy sets, they were not able to use real wood like Willow Creek’s design. They were also in a 2-year partial spending freeze, so their design was the super-low-cost version using scrap cardboard, styrofoam and very little wood.
Total cost was about $100, all for the paint and fabric.
Get the nitty-gritty details from Angela’s blog.
I think the low budget aspect really works in their favor for this one. This looks real, while Willow Creek’s looked facade-y (word?). Their design was great! But it was polished. This design is very true to life because people in third-world countries have to use leftovers and scraps to build their houses.
Great job guys!
