Marek Kovacik from YFC Slovakia in Kráľova Lehota, Slovakia, brings us this great glowing look.
For their youth services, they created this design using twenty LED neon tubes (20x 8w). The installation was simple, and it cost no more than $100. They also used ten LED Par RGBW fixtures for backlight and four FRACTAL LED bars on the floor.
The tubes couldn’t be controlled by DMX, so installation was easy. They also tried to project text directly onto their white circular background in the center.
Creating Vertical LED Neon Stage Designs
Vertical LED neon tubes create striking visual elements that draw the eye upward and add dramatic height to stage designs. This youth-focused design from YFC Slovakia demonstrates how simple, affordable materials can produce professional-looking results. The twenty LED neon tubes arranged vertically create a glowing backdrop that transforms an ordinary stage into an immersive environment perfect for worship and youth events.
The beauty of this approach lies in its simplicity. Unlike complex DMX-controlled installations, these LED neon tubes operate on standard power, making them accessible for churches without dedicated lighting technicians. The warm glow of neon-style lighting creates an inviting atmosphere that works particularly well for youth services, where creating an engaging environment is essential. The vertical arrangement naturally draws attention toward the center of the stage, framing your worship team or speaker effectively.
Cost-effectiveness makes this design especially appealing for churches with limited budgets. At under $100 for the main lighting elements, this approach proves that impactful stage design doesn’t require expensive equipment. The LED technology provides energy efficiency and long lifespan, while the neon aesthetic delivers visual impact that rivals much more expensive fixtures. Combined with strategic backlighting from LED Par cans and floor lighting from LED bars, this design creates depth and dimension without complexity.
Installation and Setup Considerations
Installing vertical neon tubes requires careful planning for both safety and visual impact. The tubes should be secured at multiple points along their length to prevent swaying or movement during services. Consider using cable grips or mounting clips designed for tube lighting that won’t damage the fixtures while providing secure attachment. For temporary installations, freestanding frames or truss structures offer flexibility, while permanent mounting may involve ceiling anchors or wall brackets.
Power distribution for twenty tubes requires planning to avoid overloading circuits. At 8 watts per tube, the total load is approximately 160 watts, well within the capacity of a standard 15-amp circuit. However, when combined with additional LED Pars and floor bars, total power requirements increase. Map your electrical needs in advance and distribute loads across multiple circuits if necessary. Always use surge protectors and ensure your electrical infrastructure can handle the sustained load.
Color temperature and brightness matching become important when combining different light sources. LED neon tubes typically have a fixed color temperature, while your RGBW Pars offer color mixing capabilities. Test your combination before finalizing the design to ensure cohesive looks. The white circular backdrop mentioned in this design serves as an excellent projection surface while also reflecting ambient light to soften the overall effect.

Pro Tips for LED Neon Stage Projects
Plan Your Spacing: The visual impact of vertical neon tubes depends heavily on consistent spacing. Use a measuring tape and masking tape markers to ensure even distribution across your stage width. Consider the golden ratio or rule of thirds when determining spacing to create visually pleasing proportions that naturally draw the eye.
Manage Cable Visibility: Nothing ruins a clean stage design faster than visible power cables. Plan cable routing to hide wires behind the tubes or within your stage structure. Use cable management sleeves or black gaffer’s tape to conceal any visible wiring. For permanent installations, consider conduit or raceway systems that protect cables while maintaining a professional appearance.
Layer Your Lighting: The most effective stage designs combine multiple light sources at different depths. This design uses the neon tubes as a primary element, backed by LED Pars and supplemented with floor bars. Experiment with different intensities and colors to create depth. The front-to-back layering adds dimension that flat lighting cannot achieve.
Consider Projection Surfaces: The white circular backdrop in this design serves dual purposes as both a visual element and a projection screen. When planning your stage, consider which surfaces might serve multiple functions. White or light-colored backdrops reflect ambient light while providing surfaces for text, lyrics, or atmospheric projections.
